Subject: Student Work Expectation
WHAT IT IS NOT: Student Work Expectation is NOT a College
Work Study Award.
WHAT IT IS: Student Work Expectation
is a recommendation we make to help meet your costs throughout the
academic year. Unlike a work study award, Student Work Expectation
is not a specific work program. It is simply a recommendation
to work and an alternative to borrowing to meet educational expenses.
You will be responsible for locating a job on or off-campus and
applying your earnings to your costs accordingly.
Every year thousands of CMU students are employed
in a variety of jobs throughout the community. A student working
an average of 15 hours per week at minimum wage ($5.15/hour) can
earn at least $2300 per year. These earnings should be sufficient
to meet books and personal expenses for most students.
Students who choose not to work may reject the Student
Work Expectation and request an increase in a suggested Parent Loan
for Undergraduate Students or pursue an alternative student loan.
