CMU Scholarships for New Students
CMU Scholarship Policy: Many scholarships are available to CMU students in recognition of their outstanding academic and/or leadership achievement.
- Recipients of CMU merit- and talent-based scholarships of a dollar value equal to or greater than $1,500 are required to reside on campus during their freshman and sophomore years unless they qualify as commuting students or for another exception to the Campus Residency Policy.
- Students may receive two renewable merit scholarships. Students who are selected for more than two renewable scholarships may choose the awards of highest value.
- Estimated scholarships (i.e., Michigan Competitive, Michigan Merit, Michigan Promise, outside agency) do not reduce the amount of tuition payable on September 1 and January 1. Students must make arrangements to pay for the total amount of tuition due to avoid a $100 late tuition fee and a $30 service charge.

Privately funded endowments provide supplemental funding to students based on need,
academic focus, career aspirations or other criteria. Most of the endowed scholarships awarded by CMU
departments are awarded to returning students with established, CMU grade point averages and/or signed majors. A limited
number of CMU departments do, however, offer scholarships to new students; these
scholarships are awarded based on departmental criteria. Please see the
CMU Bulletin
for a listing and description of the endowed scholarships. Talent scholarships are awarded to students participating in
co-curricular activities in Music, Speech and Dramatic Arts and
Broadcasting and Cinematic Arts; the Athletic Department awards athletic
aid according to NCAA guidelines; and, the Military Science Department
offers scholarships to students participating in ROTC. Students should contact the academic department for more information.

consecutive years and for new transfer students for one additional
consecutive year if a 3.25 cumulative GPA, non-Michigan residency and
full-time continuous enrollment are maintained. Participation in the Legacy Program replaces this award. http://www.cst.cmich.edu/units/bio/scholarships.htm
